Welcome to the Allergy department of the Brunswick Medical Center.
Many people experience an allergy at one point in their lives. An allergy is a hypersensitivity disorder of the immune system. Allergic reactions occur when a person’s immune system reacts to normally harmless substances in the environment. A substance that causes a reaction is called an allergen.
Causes of allergies can be categorized into two groups: host factors and environmental factors. Host factors are comprised of heredity, gender, race, and age. Environmental factors include airborne substances, sun exposure, medication, and food.
An assortment of tests exists to diagnose specific allergies. At the Brunswick Medical Center, our trained specialists are not only capable of detecting an allergy, but creating a treatment and life plan to avoid it or cope with it going forward.
