Dr Perera completed her medical studies and family medicine residency at McGill University, finishing in 2013. Dr Perera has had her family medicine practice at Brunswick Medical Center since 2013.

Dr Perera has been the Director of Student Health Services at McGill University since 2015, where she serves as medical and administrative director of the student health clinic of the university. She is also a Faculty Lecturer (Clinical) in the Department of Family Medicine of McGill University.
